Amber has a reputation problem: people picture it on a woman's neck, not a man's wrist. That reputation is about forty million years out of date. Baltic amber was worn by warriors and traders long before it was worn by brides — and in the workshop, we still cut it that way.
The cuts that read as masculine
Color and shape do most of the work. Deep cognac and cherry amber, cut into flat-faced cufflinks or set into a heavy signet ring, reads as stone first and jewelry second — closer to onyx or tiger's eye than to a pastel gem. Add oxidized silver or matte gunmetal settings, and the honey-gold softness disappears entirely.
Everyday pieces that carry it well
Cufflinks are the easiest entry point: a single cabochon per side, no chain, no ambiguity. Signet and band rings come next, especially with amber set flush rather than raised. Even a simple leather cord with one amber bead — a men's staple across the Baltic coast for generations — still holds up today.
Made to be worn, not admired
Every men's piece we cut in Brooklyn gets the same test as everything else on the bench: does it survive a workday? Amber is warm to the touch, light on the hand, and — being fossilized resin, not stone — remarkably resistant to chipping compared to harder gems. It was made for hands that work.
