The KIZIMA® patent-pending process
Traditional amber work is subtractive: a craftsman cuts, drills and polishes a raw stone, and the shape is limited by what nature provided. In 2026 KIZIMA® filed a U.S. patent application for its own method of stabilizing and processing natural Baltic amber. The method preserves the genuine material — the piece you hold is Baltic amber — while allowing durable, detailed sculptural forms: chess armies, animal figurines, icons, relief wall art. It is the reason KIZIMA® can produce objects that no importer offers, and it is used by no one else in the United States or Europe.
The amber itself is the same — the making is not
To be clear: genuine Baltic amber from Lithuania or Poland is real Baltic amber, formed 40–50 million years ago along the same Baltic coast. KIZIMA® sources its raw stone from the same Baltic Sea region. The difference is everything that happens after the raw stone is mined: selection, shaping, stabilization, polishing, quality control and the hands that do the work. At KIZIMA® all of it happens under one roof in Brooklyn, by the people whose name is on the piece.
How to tell real amber from imitation
- Warmth: real amber feels warm; glass and stone feel cold.
- Weight: amber is very light and floats in saturated salt water (plastic and glass sink).
- Scent: rubbed briskly, genuine amber gives a faint pine-resin smell; plastic smells chemical.
- Character: natural inclusions, cloudy swirls and uneven color are signs of authenticity, not defects.
- UV light: Baltic amber fluoresces pale blue-white under UV; most imitations do not.
