Some chess sets are made simply to be set out and admired. Teutonic Knights is one of them. We designed this set as an homage to medieval Gothic style — heavy silhouettes, sharp edges, the feel of fortress walls and knightly orders, rendered in clear Baltic amber.
A Gothic Silhouette in Stone
Every piece in the Teutonic Knights set is hand-carved from a single block of Baltic amber — no fused fragments, no fillers. The shapes deliberately echo Gothic architecture: elongated proportions, stepped bases, silhouettes that recall towers and helmets. Light passes through the stone unevenly, shaped by natural inclusions and layers formed over millions of years, so every piece glows a little differently.
Handmade from Start to Finish
KIZIMA®'s artisans in Brooklyn sort raw amber by size, density, and tone, matching material to each piece individually. From there, everything is done by hand: cutting, shaping, polishing. The finished pieces are set on a wood board chosen to tone-match, so the contrast between warm amber and wood underscores the set's geometry. No piece is mass-produced — which is why no two KIZIMA® sets are ever quite alike.
